Manifest

She watched as it burned
down to the ground
A home into ashes turn
In one swift motion
she circles to face
the dark night that awaits her
As she runs,
she feels no remorse -
freedom is hers

Wind in her hair
mud on her feet
she steps into the cold water
seeking to make pure
her heart that had
housed evil
for so long

She stared into the water
at a reflection
she did not recognize
She could not let go
of the hate that gave her
hope,
nor could she remember
the love that had let her down.

You could see the fire
in her heart,
and you would fear her-
rightly so.
For she would not stop,
and she could not be caged
She ran through lives
like wildfire,
destroying everything
both evil
and good that stood
in her way.

Every breath she takes
is more difficult than
the last
The smoke had
filled her lungs,
now she breathed fire
too
Her once soft skin
and light heart
turned thick and heavy.

The water turned her skin scaly,
as the wind brushed away
her smile.
A piercing pain in her feet,
she fell to the floor,
heavy on her back
she felt a pair
of great wings grow.
She had traded her soul
for the power to fly.

At great cost it had come,
but to her twas nothing.
She would no longer run,
for sport or in fear -
for magnificent wings,
even born with the unholiness
and darkness as they were,
would fly her anywhere
she wished to go.
